In this section of my Book of Shadows, I keep a collection of simple spells to help you with everyday problems. To make it easy for you to find what you need, the spells are bookmarked below. Results are not guaranteed and any problems you have after performing the spells are your own!
This spell is very quick and therefore needs to be said with some passion, determination and desperation!
You will need:
1 white candle

What to do
This spell can be performed at any time of the day or night. Just make sure you find a place where you won't be disturbed and can concentrate.
- Cast your circle if you have time. If you don't - simply imagine an impenetrable force-field around you and the space you are working in. You do not need an altar to do this spell.
- Light the candle.
- Say the following - with feeling:
- "Great Horus, Hawk on the Wing
- I ask Thee now to help me in my time of need!
- Send out your Eye, fly forth and return to me that which is lost!
- I need my <insert name of item here> and I need it now!
- Return to me that which is lost! Return it to me!
- Great Horus, Hawk on the Wing - Send out your Eye!"
- Imagine the flame from the candle getting brighter and brighter, see it infused with Divine Energy.
- Imagine that energy flowing from the candle flame to the Eye that you have before you - see the Eye glow!
- Now say:
- "Speed your Eye, your Vision - and tell me where my <insert name of lost object here> is!"
- Now (very carefully - take safety precautions!) burn the Eye in the candle.
- Thank the God in your own words for delivering your item to you, open the circle and leave the candle to burn out safely.
 Have you every played Pooh-Sticks? No? You obviously have had a very sheltered life! Read Winnie the Pooh books by A. A. Milne now! This spell utilises Winnie's fantastically inventive game - but it works! You will need to do this spell outside - you need a stream to do it!
You will need:
- 1 stream, brook or river (or beck, or whatever you call it regionally!), with a bridge that you can stand on safely
- Sticks - the same number of sticks as possible solutions to your questions plus one extra for the unknown. Find them outside yourself
- Different coloured ribbons, one for each stick
- A silver coin for the Undines
What to do
- Find your sticks.
- Go down to the river and sort your sticks. You will need to tie one different coloured ribbon on each stick to represent each different choice. Keep a note of what is what if you have so many possible solutions you can't remember them all! As you do this, think about your decision and focus on it in an objective way.

When you have tied on all the ribbons, stand on the bridge and make the invocation:
"Undines of the Waters, I ask you now to help me to make up my mind. As the river flows, it Knows! Tell me the answer to my problem!"
- Now grab all the sticks together and throw them off the bridge on one side.
- Go around to the other side and see what stick comes through first. This is your answer.
- Whether you like the answer or not, say the following:
- "I thank Thee, Undines, for Thy Help. Always keep me in your favour! I remember Thee and I remember Thy Help! Take this silver to do with as you will!"
- Throw the coin into the water, the fastest flowing bit if you can.
- The spell is done. Even if you do not understand the result of it, make a note and meditate on it and all its consequences.
- Now make your own decision, but take the Undines help into account.
Are you in the enviable position of having several suitors, but don't know which one is true? Then English Folklore has the spell for you! Best performed on a Wednesday (because Hazel is associated with Air, and Air is associated with clear communication) - all you need is a bag of hazelnuts. These are better picked yourself straight from Mother Nature's larder. Make sure you KNOW you are picking hazelnuts and leave an offering for the tree near the base of the roots - a silver coin (5p?) will do.The only real drawback with this simple spell is that you need the hazel to be in season ... a bag from a supermarket will do in a pinch, but it's not the same.
You will need:
As many hazelnuts as you have suitors
A wood fire
A good memory
What to do
- Give each of your nuts the name of a suitor
- Concentrate on the qualities of that person - try to be objective

Recite the following over the nuts, concentrating hard as you go:
"I throw these hazelnuts in the flame
Giving each my suitors' names
If your nut blazes then your passion does grow
Because your nut did brightly glow"

Throw all the nuts into the fire. The one that blazes the brightest represents the suitor that has the strongest passion for you. If more than one burns brightly, then you are very lucky! If none of them do - find someone else!
