If you want to use your psychic ability (or try it for the first time) and you want to be sure that you will not be visited by ‘nasties’ (either people or … things …) then you can very simply protect yourself against all negative energies I’m a firm believer in religious tolerance, so I have tried to give options for psychic protection that will not jar with anyone. My first technique is certainly one which most people should find comfortable. It is quick, simple to do and effective.
Many thanks to my friend John Riley who gave me this technique years ago. Do it often … it works and is great if you need to open yourself (or mor  e to the point, close yourself) very quickly. In order to work effectively in the psychic/paranormal/magickal fields, you need to know how to switch on your ability (tune in) and switch off. If you are particularly sensitive you can find yourself getting all sorts of contact from the psychic and spiritual realms – even when you don’t want them. Having a long-lost relative say ‘hi’ is great … unless you are on the loo at the time! Switch on: Imagine yourself inside a bright blue sleeping bag. Open the zip, from top to bottom. Switch off: Zip up the bag Yep, it can be that easy! You just have to remind yourself what you are intending to accomplish when you do it – and do it often. It will help give you structure to your psychic work and, more importantly, the ‘switching off’ is as simple as zipping up a sleeping bag and can be done quickly if you feel threatened.
If you work alone, you can simply say a prayer and feel the energy being returned by your deity to protect you. If you work in a group, you can join hands, imagine this energy and send it around the group by imagining it going through your hands. I have given you a couple of examples of prayers, but please choose a prayer that suits your own faith … or it means nothing!

Please send to me/us positive energy, light and love in this time and space. Watch over me and those I share this experience with. Send to me/us the highest good to keep us safe, focused and positive. In return we give thanks and gratitude, love and positive light for the universal good of all. Amen.
If you are working in situations where you are likely to be confronted by energies / entities that are out to scare you or make you feel very uncomfortable, you will probably want to have a quick and easy way of ridding yourself of these negative ‘things’ . I apologise to any non-Christians now, but the most effective technique I have found is the (out loud) recitation of Psalm 121. If you say it loud, clearly and with conviction, you may very well find (as I do) that it prompts an immediate reaction from the Powers That Be, and you will feel an energy form behind you. This is to protect you, not to scare you. In most cases, it will clear away any negative energies pretty much instantly. There are a multitude of other techniques, but this will get you going for starters. Opening up to psychic ability is usually accompanied by the opening of the Chakras, but I don’t want to complicate things here by going through all of the Chakras, what they mean and what they do.
