CalendarCeltic Tree Month of Vine starts (00:00 - September 2nd, 2010)
Although it doesn't do so well in the colder parts of the UK, the vine (grape) is a part of our heritage too. The leaves from most vines can be eaten and the grape can, of course be drunk - in several forms!
The grape is sacred to Jupiter but is also connected with Dionysus and Bacchus (for obvious reasons!) and also to Venus. The vine has a five-pointed leaf, so despite some of its masculine correspondences, it is also sacred to the Goddess in general.
The vine is another of the nine woods that are traditonally burnt on a Beltane fire: it is said to bring joy (perhaps another reference to the alcoholic associations of the grape?).
The vine is best included in spells for joy, inspiration, fertility and binding. The vine is also a great protector and it can be included in magickal pouches for protection. |
