Vestalia starts(00:00 - June 7th, 2012)Today is the start of the festival of the popular Roman goddess of the hearth and home (the festival ends on June 15). Famous for her virgin followers (she was virgin, too) surprisingly little is known about her and her mysteries were (and are) certainly mysterious! Her symbol was a sacred flame that always burned in her temples and was probably the inspiration for the name of those famous pink-tipped Swan Vesta matches! Every Roman meal would begin and end with a reference to her as she was strongly connected with the family.
