Lupercalia (00:00 - February 15th, 2012)
Lupercalia is known as a Roman festival, but it is acutally much more ancient. It is usually observed from Feburary 13th to February 15th and is conducted to rid the surroudnging areas of evil spirits and purify the populace. It is sometimes conncted with an ancient Greek festival called Arcadian Lykaia, where the Lycaean Pan was worshipped.
Lupercus is a Roman God, sometimes identified with Faunus and very similar to the Greek God pan (horned and goat-footed God of Nature). Lupercus is the god of shepherds and today is his feast day. Personally I find the semantics quite amusing, as Lupus is the Latin for wolf ... so was the god a wolf in sheep's clothing? Sorry ...
If you want some help with gardening or any natural pursuit, today may be a good day to connect with Lupercus, who can help you in these areas.
