Ostara (05:14 - March 20th, 2012)
Also known as Eostre and Eoster, the Spring Equinox (or Vernal Equinox) is a celebration of life returning to the Earth. At this time, the length of the day and the night are in equal balance.
This change in Nature is a reflection of the return of the Goddess to the Earth (a good myth to read regarding this is the story of the Abduction of Persephone) and the potential of growth all around. The God is now the Green Man, as he starts to clothe himself in leafy raiment.
Traditional celebratory rituals often include painted eggs and also connect to the Hare as a symbol of the Goddess, especially in her Luna forms: Hecate, Freja and Holda. The egg is a strong symbol of fertility, and also perfectly demonstrates the potential cycle of birth, life and death.
For an Ostara ritual, sign up as a Warty's Witch (see tab on menu - it's free!) and pop along to my Book of Shadows. You can also find a recipe for Ostara Cakes on this page: great for sharing and impressive, too!
