Celtic Tree Month of Reed (Dwarf Elm) starts (00:00 - October 28th, 2012)
The Celtic Year runs in conjunction with the cycles of the moon and traditionally this 'month' is the 12th Moon of the Celtic Year. The months runs from October 28th - November 24th.
The Tree of the month is the Reed, or the Dwarf Elm. It is sometimes called Water-Elder or Whitten.
The Elm has many medicinal uses (but if you want to use it, you should check with your doctor ALWAYS!). Slippery Elm is reputed to be helpful in dealing with 'Old Hag Syndrome' (or Sleep Paralysis) and is also said to help with insomnia.
Along with the tree of the month, the other associations are:
-
Bird: Owl, Goose
-
Colour: Green
-
Crystal: Green Jasper
-
Day: Tuesday
Being close to the Sabbat (Witches' festival) of Mabon and the Sabbat of Samhain, it will come as no surprise to find out that this Celtic Month is associated with death, and rebirth. This tree represents a link between this world and the Otherworld. It is closely associated with Saturn and Odin.
